NATURE-INSPIRED ART PARTY!!! We will sculpt. We will draw. We will dance. We will be inspired by nature. The students CAN (but don't have to) bring in nature artifacts from home or outside, such as a birds nest, a beautiful leaf or feather, et. cetera. (Please do not disrupt nature or harm a living creature). Then we will sculpt, draw, or dance to create ART! Parents- would anyone like to donate some clay for the class party? Email me! This is the only time the yearbooks will be on sale. Remember: the deadline is April 24th! Thank you! During our latest "Math Talk," I was amazed at all of the different strategies being used. I presented a problem, students solved using mental math, then shared their answers. (Their answers are written on the left.) We first observe all the different answers. What do we notice? Look at the tens place. Look at the ones place. Are any of the answers close to each other? Do any stand out? Then partners turn and talk. They share their strategies. Many of them realize if/how they made a mistake just by talking it out. Then students share their strategies while I record it on the board (to put a visual to the mental math strategy).
Today, Mrs. Castillo-Oh led our class in making a "Human Concept Map." First, each student grabbed a card, then we organized those words into a web (recorded on a poster). Then we recreated the web using our bodies. The hardest part was "connecting" with other! We will continue to do these Body Webs with our Animal Classification studies.
I will be posting more updates and pictures from the classroom on my Twitter account. You can follow me @ChristineButi and there's now a Twitter feed right here on the blog ---> I am also excited to share your child's work with you on a Student Portfolio app called SeeSaw. I just learned about it at Institute Day on Monday, and have started using it this week. Students can share pictures or videos with comments, writing or audio. You can comment on their work as well! Please check your email or your child's Home Folder for information about signing up. |
