As you begin to shop for Valentine’s Day cards for children to distribute at school, please keep in mind that cards may not contain any type of candy or food. We have a large population of students at Indian Trail with food related allergies and it is our goal to keep every student safe. Per district policy, there will only be one "sweet treat" provided per room during the Valentine's Day classroom party.
iRead Forms are due on Monday- if you have lost the form, please print it from the post below. ALL STUDENTS MUST TURN IN THEIR READING MINUTES!
Book Orders are also due Monday. There are 4 forms and so many great books to choose from. Thank you in advance for your orders. They allow me to earn Bonus Points for our classroom library. I already have my eyes on some new books I know the kids will love!
It's been great to have a full week of school and get back into the swing of things. Something new we started last week was Table DoJo Points. Throughout the day, I award points (or take away points) for expected behavior (or unexpected behavior). The kids love seeing their points at the end of the day- it helps remind them that EVERYTHING IS AWESOME when they work as a TEAM! At the end of the week, the table with the most Dojo Points gets a table reward for the next week.
We are working on Standard NB.5-NB.7, using base ten blocks to add 2-digit numbers. By using the base ten blocks and drawings, students can show how the add the ones and tens together to get the sum of 2 or more 2-digit numbers. This makes the idea of "re-grouping" or "carrying" concrete and visual.
Matter is Popping!
We took a closer look at the state of matter that is most difficult to observe: GAS. We did an experiment with Pop Rocks and Soda. Let's just say - we had a BLAST! We followed the experiment by writing lab reports, stating our scientific question, hypothesis, steps, results and conclusions.
Ryan's Galapagos Presentation
We Read for iRead! During the month of January (Jan 10-30th), students will record their reading minutes on their iRead form instead of Camp-Read-Alot form. Reading is mandatory, fundraising is optional, but encouraged. Let's read to win the iRead trophy back! Plus, there are great prizes for those who participate. Forms are due on February 3rd!
