Biography Bonanza!

We have begun our biography study in 2B! Most of our literacy work will be focusing on biography reading/writing in the next few weeks. Some examples are:
- Biography Read Alouds (Jacques Cousteau, Abraham Lincoln, Amelia Earheart so far, Jane Goodall and Jackie Robinson to come!)
- Small Group Guided Reading groups (author study-Jean Fritz, Dr. Suess or Tomie Depaolo and athlete study- Nancy Lopez, Michael Jordan or Pele). If time, we'll do an inventor study)
- Adjectives- while we read biographies, we are brainstorming adjectives to describe him/her using EVIDENCE from the text to support why we chose that adjective.
- Writer's Workshop- Each student will interview and write a biography about a classmate. They are SO excited about this. They were happy to learn that a biography doesn't have to be about someone famous. Everyone has a story!

Super Opinions!
Our second graders are Super Opinion writers. We practiced having opinion discussions and writing our opinions with strong reasons to support our opinion. Our final piece was writing about what Super Power they would prefer. Here are some of the final products. | |
Time & Money
Don't you wish you had more of both? We do too because our Time/Money unit went by so quickly. Yesterday, I gave students the choice of stations to review before our assessment. We will continue to revisit and review these concepts throughout the year. I encourage you to practice these real-life math concepts at home as well!
