What do shoes and books have in common? Quite a lot, actually! On Friday I demonstrated how picking out shoes is similar to picking out books. Certain shoes have a definite PURPOSE (like fancy shoes for a wedding, or rain boots for the puddles). This is the same with books- people read certain books for a purpose (like how to train a dog, or how to cook a recipe). Also, we choose shoes based on our INTERESTS (for example, running shoes!) Readers choose books that interest them as well! The other two parts of finding Good Fit books is Comprehension and Know (most of the words). If readers follow the I-PICK chart, they are sure to find books that are a Good Fit for them! Would Rosali be able to go for a hike in Mrs. Buti's wedding heels? Would Sophia play in PE in Mrs. Buti's rainboots? Will Jennifer be successful in Mrs. Buti's 4-year-old daughter's shoes? NO! Just like shoes, we will only be successful as readers if we choose GOOD FIT books.
