Main Idea/Details

Today we read a biography on Thomas Edison and practiced the non-fiction strategy Main Idea and Details. We used the visual of a tree: the trunk is the main idea, the branches/leaves are the details of the story! All of the details grow from the main idea!


We will apply this to our informational writing during Writer's Workshop too. Students have been researching about Native Americans and are practicing writing paragraphs with On-Topic details.
