Dear Parents,
The most important homework I ask my 2nd graders to do is to READ at home. I have begun sending a book home with each child for "Camp Read A-Lot"- our take-home reading system. Your child will bring a book home that they either read in a group lesson, or picked as a "Just-Right" book from his/her seat sack. In addition to Mrs. Grost's library, I encourage you to utilize the Highland Park public library, as well as Scholastic book orders. If you do not have books at home for your child to read, please let me know and I will send more home.
It is crucial that you carve out time for your child to read. Encourage him to read to you while you're making dinner, have him read before bed, or have him listen to RAZ kids. Pick a book that YOU enjoy to read aloud to them- keep it fun! But make the time. They need to practice often- in school and at home.
So as you prepare for our Thanksgiving break, plan a trip to the library if you're in town, or pack books if you are traveling!
Happy Reading!
